A Foundation in Excellence
I have been practicing orthodontics since 1975. Following graduation from The Ohio State University with a degree in Electrical Engineering, I earned my Master's Degree in Computer Science from Johns Hopkins University. During my time at Hopkins, my father-in-law, Dr. Albert Reitman introduced me to orthodontics. I enrolled at the Baltimore College of Dental Surgery at the University of Maryland, earned my Doctorate of Dental Surgery, and was inducted into OKU, the national dental honor society.
After dental school, I began my orthodontic residency at the University of Connecticut. I was in the second graduating class at Uconn, where I earned my Certificate in Orthodontics. Upon graduation, I joined Dr. Reitman in his practice in Garden City, NY.
Continuing my education is not only an important aspect of my own practice, but my involvement also helps new generations of orthodontists. I was an integral member of the faculty that created the Advanced Education Program in Orthodontics at the School of Dental Medicine at Stony Brook University and am now the Program Director. I have been teaching orthodontics, growth and development, biomechanics, interdisciplinary care, and Orthognathic surgery to my dental students and oral surgery residents since 1975. I am also the Program Director of the Advanced Education Orthodontic Program at SUNY Stony Brook.
In the Orthodontic Community
I have been the orthodontist and a founding member of the Cleft Palate team at Stony Brook University Hospital since its inception. I am also the Director of the Craniofacial Deformities Team at the School of Dental Medicine, providing service to the local community and hospital in treatment planning for patients with complicated facial abnormalities and syndromes. I co-direct a team with the Department of Periodontics that reviews treatment plans of patients with complicated multidisciplinary dental problems.
I am a current member of many societies and alumni organizations. Besides OKU, I am a Past President of the Northern Atlantic Component of the Edward H. Angle Society of Orthodontics, a prestigious group of orthodontists who have been Board Certified and present the most current research in orthodontics every year.
Outside the Office
When not providing excellent care to my patients, I enjoy golf and travel. My wife, Judy, and I have traveled around the world and love to share our adventures with everyone. I am an encyclopedia of the best places to go and where to eat! As you know, my oldest son, Zack, has been a member of the Faber Orthodontics team since 2001. Josh, our younger son, is a lobbyist for the Roth Group in Washington, DC. My daughter-in-law, Joanne Cosoil, is a lawyer at the Carlyle Group in Washington, DC as well. Having my two grandchildren, Austin and Grant, nearby is simply the best!
